    About this atelier

Using the traditional Tegaki-Yuzen dyeing technique for kimono,we create works that embody the sensibility of “wearing a painting,” a feeling cultivated through the act of wearing kimono, with the hope that our customers will feel a sense of calm and elegance. Masashige Uenaka, a Yuzen artist, handles the entire process alone — from designing the pattern to dyeing and finishing the piece. While this makes mass production difficult, each item is carefully handmade with attention to detail. Although Tegaki-Yuzen is a kimono dyeing technique passed down since the Edo period (late 17th century), we also apply this technique to materials such as cotton, linen, and leather to create items suited to modern lifestyles. Tegaki-Yuzen was originally created for kimono wearers or commissioned by individuals, making it a technique particularly well-suited to expressing personal wishes and creating custom-made pieces.
