About this atelier
OKAYAMA-KOUGEI was founded in 1968 by two hand-painted Yuzen artisans, Kōzō Okayama and Takeko.
Takako Okayama, the first woman recognized as a traditional craftsman in Kyo-Yuzen, is dedicated to creating kimonos that enhance a woman's beauty.
Her Yuzen designs feature soft, delicate hues, infusing each kimono with a sense of dreamlike elegance.
While preserving the traditions and culture passed down for generations, she continues to craft kimonos that embody both heritage and imagination.
Through kimonos, we wish to bring dream-filled days to your life.

Guide Recommendations
During the studio visit, we were carefully guided through each step of the traditional Kyo-Yuzen dyeing process. We learned that from the initial concept to the finished piece, the creation of a single work can take an entire year. Every piece we saw was truly impressive, each one standing as a work of art in its own right. It was also very moving to see young artisans learning and carrying on these time-honored techniques.
