    About this atelier

In the Edo period, during the Genroku era which is considered the Golden Age of this period, is when the Kyo-Yuzen dyeing technique was created. The Yuzen dyeing technique with its bright and gorgeous colors, the graceful patterns of the beauty of nature, embroidery and use of gold leaf, has fascinated people for more than 300 years.

First, pick up the brush and try dyeing with the beautiful colors. You can sense the elegance of Kyo-Yuzen, even if it’s just a little.
Anyone can come and enjoy Kyo-Yuzen at a classic Kyo-machiya (traditional Kyoto townhouse).

    Guide Recommendations

I joined this workshop on two different visits to Japan, and each time it was an enjoyable and creative experience. It’s a great way to spend one to three hours (or more) making art while creating a one-of-a-kind item to take home. The studio offers stencil-based art sessions, where participants can apply designs to various items such as zippered cases, T-shirts, paper fans, bags, or traditional fabric curtains. Fees depend on the item selected. Instructions in English are available, and booking in advance by phone is recommended. This hands-on activity is suitable for participants of all ages.
