About this atelier
Visitors can tour a factory that produces nukinishiki, hand-woven fabrics using Jacquard machines, which are representative of Nishijin textiles.
The museum, which was built in 1936 as a store and residence for the Nishijin textile industry, retains the appearance of the original Nishijin weaving shop, including beams, pillars, and lighted skylights, and exhibits hand-woven fabrics and period costumes from all over Japan, including a Noh costume (restored in cooperation with the Katayama family of the Kanze school) that is a national treasure representing the Showa period.
