Wa-Rosoku

About Wa-Rosoku

Wa-rosoku are traditional Japanese candles made from natural plant-based wax. Known for their slow, even burn and elegant, flickering flame, they are often used in temples, tea ceremonies, and as decorative items.

History of Wa-Rosoku

Originating during the Edo period (17th century), wa-rosoku became popular in Kyoto, where artisans developed various crafting techniques. The candles, made from wax derived from sumac trees, played a key role in religious and cultural practices. Today, they remain a symbol of craftsmanship and tradition in Japan.
