Cloisonné enamel is the art of applying a glass glaze to metal, such as silver and copper, through a firing process. Kyoto Cloisonné (Kyo Shippo) flourished during the Azuchi-Momoyama period (circa 1573–1603), when culture thrived, and was highly prized as decoration for imperial residences, shrines, and temples.
